This guide explains how to set up the MTD IT (Making Tax Digital for Income Tax) module for the first time and how to import or add clients.
Before you can begin:
You must purchase the MTD IT module.
Once purchased, the module will appear in your Capium Menu.
Access the MTD IT Module
To access the module please follow these steps:
- Go to your Capium App Menu .
- Select the MTD IT module.
- Click on Manage.
- Select the Add Client button (top-left corner).

Please Note
If your Capium MTD Module link appears to be greyed out. This could be because you have not purchased the module yet.
Setting up clients (Import Clients from Self-Assessment)
When selecting import from the Self-Assessment module, you have two options:
Import Existing Clients
This will bring across all eligible Self-Assessment clients.
B. Import Clients by Turnover Filter
You can filter clients based on their turnover from the Financial Year 2024–25 submitted before 31 January 2026.
Alternatively you can filter client based on their turnover:
- Clients exceeding £50,000
- Clients exceeding £30,000
- Clients exceeding £20,000
Only clients meeting the selected threshold (based on their submitted Self-Assessment figures) will appear in the filtered list. After selecting the appropriate filter.

Add New Clients
If the client has not previously been part of your practice:
- Go to the New Client section.
- Complete the required form.
- Save the client within the MTD IT module.
Important (Temporary Process)
Currently all new MTD IT clients must be added directly inside the MTD IT module.
As part of the Phase 3 release (End of April 2027), our databases will be unified. Once implemented, clients can be created anywhere in the system and will automatically sync across all areas.
