A community interest company (CIC) files a CIC 34 report alongside its annual accounts. In Capium, the annual accounts are produced exactly as they are for any other limited company client, and the CIC 34 report is prepared separately and packaged with them before filing.

This article is the overview of the process. Each step has its own article with the full detail.

The CIC features in Capium

Once a client is flagged as a CIC, three features appear in Accounts Production for that client.

FeatureWhere it appearsWhat it does
CIC 34 NotesSettingsHolds the content of each part of the CIC 34 report
CIC ReportsReportsGenerates the CIC 34 report from the notes
CIC Submissions WizardTasksBuilds the zip package and links through to Companies House

None of these appear until the CIC option is ticked against the client.

The process in order

StepWhat you doArticle
1Flag the client as a CICEnabling the CIC option for a client
2Produce the annual accounts as normalHow to prepare a set of Accounts
3Complete the CIC 34 NotesCompleting the CIC 34 Notes
4Generate the CIC 34 reportGenerating the CIC 34 report
5Build the zip packageCreating the CIC submission package
6File and record the submissionFiling the CIC package with Companies House

Steps 2 and 3 can be done in either order, but both must be finished before step 5, because the wizard needs a generated accounts report and a generated CIC report to build the package.

Points to be aware of

  • The accounts side of the process is unchanged. Accounting periods, trial balance, report settings and annual accounts all work as they do for any limited company client.
  • The CIC 34 report covers the current financial year only. There is no comparative column and no prior year content to complete.
  • Nothing in the CIC 34 Notes is populated automatically. Every part is entered manually for each client, each year.
  • There is no direct or API submission for CIC filings. Capium prepares and packages the reports, and the upload and payment take place on the Companies House website.
