From 20 October 2026, Capium’s Accounts Production lets you set report formatting at an individual client level, as well as across your whole practice. This means font, heading and spacing choices, and page margins, can be tailored for a specific client’s accounts report without changing the formatting used for every other client. The update also addresses cases where certain formatting combinations were producing an unwanted blank page in the generated report.
This article covers the new client-level override. For background on the practice-wide default it sits on top of, see Report formatting in Accounts Production and General Settings in Accounts Production.
Before you start
- No additional permission is needed beyond normal access to the client’s accounts in Accounts Production.
- It’s worth checking your practice-level report formatting first, since a client-level override only changes the formatting for that one client.
- Have the client’s accounting period open so you can preview the report after making changes.
Practice level vs client level
Capium applies report formatting in two layers:
| Level | Applies to | Where to set it |
|---|---|---|
| Practice level | Every client’s accounts report, by default | Report Format under General Settings, Report Formatting tab |
| Client level | One client only, overrides the practice default for that client | Report Format under that client’s own Settings |
The client-level screen does not have separate tabs. It shows the same Report Fonts and Headings, Page Margins (PDF only) and Formatting sections as the practice-level Report Formatting tab, scoped to that one client.
How to set report formatting for a client
Navigation > Accounts Production > Select a client > Settings > Report Format
- Open the client in Accounts Production.
- Under Settings, select Report Format.
- Select Edit.
- Under Report Fonts and Headings, choose the Font Name (Helvetica, Arial, Verdana or Times New Roman) and set the font sizes you want for this client’s report.
- Under Page Margins (PDF only), set the Top, Bottom, Left and Right margins, in points (pt).
- Review the options under Formatting, and tick or untick as needed for this client.
- Select Save. (Select Cancel instead to discard your changes, or Reset to default to revert the screen’s values.)
- Regenerate the report to preview the result. See How To Regenerate Annual Accounts if you’re not sure how to do this.
Repeat these steps for any other client whose report needs different formatting from the practice default.
To change the practice-wide default instead:
Navigation > Accounts Production > General Settings > Report Format > Report Formatting
The steps are the same, except you select Edit on the Report Formatting tab under General Settings. The Other Settings tab alongside it covers journal auto-save and rounding figures, and isn’t part of report formatting.

Fixing blank pages
Certain combinations of font size, padding and margin could previously cause a blank page to appear in the generated report. This was reviewed internally and addressed by giving you control over these values at client level, so a specific client’s margins, padding or font size can be reduced to give the report content enough room on the page before a page break is triggered. Existing accounts are not affected until formatting is changed and the report regenerated.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| A blank page appears after a note or statement | Margins, padding or font size push content just over a page boundary | Reduce the relevant margin or padding value under Report Format for this client, then regenerate |
| Formatting change doesn’t appear in the report | Report not regenerated after the setting was changed | Regenerate the report; see I’ve made a change in the account settings but it is not showing in the accounts? How do I regenerate accounts? |
| Margin change has no effect on a non-PDF export | Page margins apply to the PDF output only | Expected behaviour. Use the PDF export to check margin changes |
What happens next
Once you’re happy with the formatting and the report is free of unwanted blank pages, carry on with submission as normal:
