Before you start

You will need an agent services account to access the Income Record Viewer.

If you do not have an agent services account you will need to do the following:

Register to use an agent services account.

Create your agent services account.

There’s a different way to apply for an agent services account if you’re not based in the UK.

Get authorised using the digital handshake

You will not be able to use any existing 64-8 authorisation to access the Income Record Viewer.

Read the guidance on how to get authorised using the digital handshake so that you can access your client’s information in the Income Record Viewer.

Each of your clients will:

need to give you authorisation to access their information in the Income Record Viewer and act on their behalf, using the digital handshake

only need to authorise you once using the digital handshake to access the Income Record Viewer

need to use their personal Government Gateway user ID and password to log in and accept your digital handshake for you to get authorised, if they do not have a personal Government Gateway user ID and password, they can create one using the guidance on how to set up their personal tax account

If any of your clients are digitally excluded, give them a number to call HMRC and they will be passed through to the Extra Support Team, who will talk them through the process over the phone.

After you’re authorised

Sign in to your agent services account to access the Income Record Viewer.
